Grecia, invitado de honor

La Feria Internacional del Libro ha querido rendir homenaje a Grecia y al espectacular dinamismo de su cultura contemporánea, y con ello brindar a los lectores españoles y a los editores y profesionales participantes en LIBER la oportunidad de aproximarse y conocer la cultura y la literatura de este país.

Su presencia viene avalada, no sólo por su honda tradición cultural sino además por la vitalidad de su mercado editorial. En la actualidad Grecia cuenta con más de 600 editoriales y alrededor de 7.000 títulos anuales, lo que le convierte en un mercado de especial interés para España, cuyas exportaciones de libros a este país representan en la actualidad el 5’2% del total que realiza Grecia, situándose detrás de Reino Unido, Alemania e Israel. Así mismo las traducciones que se realizan del español representan el 4’3%, porcentaje que se pretende aumente fomentando acciones y encuentros como la presencia de Grecia en la Feria Internacional del Libro como invitado de honor

Una presencia que tendrá una doble vertiente. Por un lado, comercial, ya que han sido invitados un total 42 editores que tendrán un espacio de promoción e intercambio profesional en el marco de la Feria. Por otro lado, cultural, con Grecia como principal protagonista del Programa de LIBER, este año dedicado a la difusión de la literatura de este país, de la mano de alguna de las figuras más relevantes del panorama literario griego. En efecto, son diecisiete escritores los que participarán en este programa que se desarrollará en distintos espacios culturales de Madrid, así como en otras ciudades de España.

Entre sus propuestas, el programa cuenta con la celebración de un encuentro protagonizado por escritores, editores, agentes literarios y traductores que lleva por título "Escritores españoles en Grecia, escritores griegos en España". Junto a ello otros actos como la presentación del libro "Antología del Cuento Griego", a cargo de Fernando Rodríguez Lafuente, y con la presencia de cinco de los escritores antologados: Zanasis Valtinós, Pavlos Mátesis, Menis Kumandareas, Rhea Galanaki, y Ajileas Kyriakidis; las presentaciones de los escritores Dimitris Mingas y Petros Márkaris; la conferencia "Significantes y significados en el discurso poético", ofrecida por el Embajador Vassilis Vitsaxís, y la presentación del libro de Nikos Petsalis Diomidis, "La Callas desconocida".

Así mismo, en Madrid y Barcelona se desarrollarán previamente a LIBER otros encuentros como la presentación de los libros "Amor, verano y guerra" de Eugenia Fakinu, y "Anotología del Nuevo Cuento Griego", de Irini Pitsaki, así como la presentación del poeta Haris Vlavianós y de los escritores Zanasis Valtinós y Andreas Staikos. El programa incluye también la celebración del encuentro Voces griegas contemporáneas, en el que participarán los autores María Efstaciadi, Zomás Scasis, Michel Fais, y que se celebrará con posterioridad en Madrid, Córdoba y Málaga.

Greece, the guest of honour

The International Book Trade Fair wanted to pay tribute to Greece and the spectacular dynamism of its contemporary culture. The Fair aimed to offer Spanish readers and publishers and professionals participating in LIBER the opportunity to come together and find out about this country’s culture and literature.

Their presence is supported, not just by its deep-rooted cultural tradition but also because of the vitality of its publishing market. A the moment Greece has more than 600 publishing houses and around 7,000 titles per year, which makes it an especially interesting market for Spain. Their book exports to this country at the moment represent 5.2% of Greece’s total, putting it behind the United Kingdom, Germany and Israel. Consequently, translations into Spanish represent 4.3%, a percentage that they are trying to increase by promoting actions and meetings such as Greece’s presence at the international Book Fair as guest of honour.

A double-sided presence: on the one hand, commercial, because a total of 42 publishers have been invited, and they will have a promotion and professional exchange space within the framework of the Fair. On the other hand, cultural, with Greece as the main contributor to the LIBER programme. This year it is dedicated to the diffusion of literature, from some of the most important figures from Greek literature. En effect, seventeen writers will participate in this programme which will take place in different cultural spaces in Madrid, as well as in other cities in Spain.

Amongst their proposals, the programme stages a meeting of writers, publishers, literature agents and translators entitled "Spanish writers in Greece, Greek writers in Spain". Added to this are other events, such as the presentation of the book "Anthology of Greek Storytelling", under the supervision of Fernando Rodríguez Lafuente, and with the presence of five of the writers who contributed their work to the anthology: Zanasis Valtinós, Pavlos Mátesis, Menis Kumandareas, Rhea Galanaki, and Ajileas Kyriakidis; the presentations of the writers Dimitris Mingas and Petros Márkaris; the conference "Meaning and signification in poetic discourse", offered by the Ambassador Vassilis Vitsaxís, and the presentation of Nikos Petsalis Diomidis´s book, "La Callas desconocida" (Unknown Callas).

Consequently, in Madrid and Barcelona prior to LIBER other meetings will be held as well as the presentation of the books "Love, summer and war" by Eugenia Fakinu, and "Anthology of the New Greek Tale", by Irini Pitsaki, as well as the presentation of the poet Haris Vlavianós and the writers Zanasis Valtinós and Andreas Staikos. The programme also includes the staging of the meeting Contemporary Greek voices, in which the authors María Efstaciadi, Zomás Scasis, Michel Fais, will participate. This will be held afterwards in Madrid, Cordoba and Malaga.
